The French

After five years of living in France I am as much an outsider now as the day I arrived, I am Les Anglais. Setting off across France with my car and a small camera is an attempt to understand the country, the culture and the people but also to explore my own love/hate relationship with France. I am taking the Street Photographers approach because there is no better way to let the country surprise and confound my preconceptions. These are not travel pictures, it’s not the geographic but the social and cultural landscape that interests me. France is straddling tradition and modernity whilst under siege from the Anglo American world, the Croque Monsieur is slowly being replaced by the Big Mac.
